Redesigning PECE - Design Ideas

Text

  • Random question of the day - highlights question parts of PECE, encourages engagement, encourages randomness / researchers to think of a question as it pertains to their research

  • It’s unclear what type of engagement different creators are ready for. Does someone want me to keep everything in this specific format? What kinds of thoughts is someone ready for?

    • Currently viewing engagement as public / private, but engagement isn’t binary - maybe signaling what types of interactions researchers want to encourage on different pieces?

  • Lots of talk re: bulk uploading v. tediousness of individual uploads. Pros and cons to both. What about “add” button that sends something to your “queue” - lets you get into the groove of accumulating lots of material, but reminds you to sort and add metadata (that you can do individually, but as a set) later on. Similar to zotero, you “add” something and maybe it collects some of the metadata, but you have to go in later and clean it up for it to work/cite properly

  • Alerts when a researcher tags you, you can ask others to annotate things in-platform (rather than via email), see when people have engaged with material you’ve engaged with

  • Assigned annotations - as a way to actually get interactions - currently facilitated by spreadsheets on some projects

  • How to visualize / navigate the archives

    • “Personal” archive - what you’ve curated for yourself, e.g.

      • Data you’ve uploaded

      • Essays you’ve created

      • Things you’ve commented on / contributed to / annotated

      • How your work relates to others

    • “Public” archive - everything on the instance and how it interrelates

  • Exploring how to redesign the landing page in a way that better suits user aims

  • A different view of the questions on the platform - e.g. a pane of randomly generated ones always appears, and then you can bookmark ones you are working on currently; and an easy searching mechanism to find ones that your collaborators might want to share with you, and an easier way of finding ones you added

  • Different “types” of essays to help orient certain users? Tied with Accessing Desired Materials, a way to show what is on an instance or in a project? Style guide? In or outside of platform, how strict, who can enforce?
