What governance structure and statements underpin this platform and where are these expressed?

Friday, March 12, 2021 - 5:26pm

I would not say that our governance structure is apparent anywhere on the platform. As a research group, TERP is working on a collaboration protocol, modeled off the version that the PECE Design Groupo is in the process of creating and adopting. Once we complete that work, it will be posted as an artifact, and as an essay that gather our team protocols and practices.

As for statements, I think the About section does a fair job at conveying our goals.

What are the substantive logics of the platform (and are they visible)?

Friday, March 12, 2021 - 5:22pm

We have five substantive logics. Only four are visible and they are in various stages of completeness… in their curation on the platform. The Relief in Time logic is the least developed. The logic that is not present is, the logic about energy rights... The extent to which the logics are performed in our content and design... that is something I'd like feedback on.

Does this archive|platform aspire to create a public (following John Dewey’s arguments about the need to provoke publics into existence)? What are the hoped for e|affects of the archive?

Friday, March 12, 2021 - 5:19pm

When I proposed this project in 2018, and began it in 2019, I don’t think I allowed myself to hope for anything as grand as creating a public. Especially because, in my experience working in Philadelphia, people need quick and easy access to information; the least amount of barriers possible. And PECE’s design is a barrier to public use, in my opinion. That means: public use needs to be very intentionally designed in by users. One way we’ve been doing this is with the slider on the home page. Or, by providing direct links to pages instead of just the link to the platform.

I would say, on March 12, 2021, yes, we aspire to create a public using the platform. However, that’s a project unto itself that we are, very intentionally thinking about and working on.

Who are likely and hoped for users of this platform?

Friday, March 12, 2021 - 5:12pm

There are four types of users. One likely, the other three hoped for. The first user group are students who work as research assistants on the project, or who are part of the research team; this also includes students enrolled in classes that I teach at Drexel University, which focus on energy.

The second type of user is other researchers -- either from the PECE community or the broader energy humanities/studies communities. I hope that, in years to come, researchers will use TERP as a resource for their own work.

The third type of user is the Philadelphia public. This includes study participants, community organizations, and nonprofits doing advocacy work (like Community Legal Services).

The final hoped for user is our project partners, Energy Coordinating Agency. They are so incredibly busy, however, I have not figured out how yet to make the website useful to them. Perhaps as an archive for their work...
