A response to the 2018 NAS report

This memo is an emergent collective response to the April 2018 NAS report, "THE IRREPRODUCIBILITY CRISIS OF MODERN SCIENCE: Causes, Consequences, and the Road to Reform."  Everything about this report is wrong: it misunderstands and misrepresents what sciences are and how they are done. It misunderstands and misrepresents the colaborative, social nature of scientific work and thought.  And it presents and advocates for a relationship between the worlds of the sciences and  the worlds of political deliberation and action that is not only unsupported by historical and contemporary data and analysis, but represents a conservative and even authoritarian politics of its own in the guise of a technocratic and scientistic neutrality.
